This made in the USA 120 grit flattening stone is designed to return your water or oil stones to true, flat surfaces. With use over time, sharpening stones can develop depressions and uneven areas in the stone surface, which effects the uniformity of the contact your tools make with it, and therefore the edge that the stone can deliver to those tools. An uneven surface will result in spotty, uneven, and less effective sharpening on edges - especially knives. Keeping your sharpening stones trued will ensure your stone is delivering the best edge possible when used.
