The Gransfors Bruk Hunter's Axe is a specialty axe designed and made for hunters.
While the Gransfors Hunter's Axe is usable as a general outdoor axe, the Hunter's Axe varies from a typical general outdoor axe such as the Small Forest Axe. The blade of the Hunter's Axe is a little bit thinner, there's 1/4" more blade face and most noticeably, the poll is forged thinner and gently rounded to be used for skinning.
Rather than using a knife to separate a hide and pounding it out with your fists, with this axe you can use the poll to do that task without worrying about puncturing the hide. You pull the hide with one hand at the same time you hit with the Flay Poll of the axe between the hide and the flesh; and stroke by stroke the hide comes off.
The Gransfors Bruk Hunter's Axe is good for chopping, in wood as well as meat. The grip of the handle has circular grooves which gives a steady grip even if your hands are wet or sticky.
The Hunter's Axe has received, as the first and only axe in Sweden, a design award from The Swedish Society of Crafts and Design.
