Outdoor Filson Jackets
Outdoor Wool and Cotton Jackets
Space age synthetic materials are all the rage these days, and there’s no shortage of brightly coloured, puffy, high tech shells on the market. While suitable for walking the dog on a maintained trail, or jogging on the local boardwalk, how well will it hold up when hauling a canoe over branches of fallen deadfall on an unmaintained portage? Or if you accidentally scrape against it while bucking up firewood with a collapsable saw? Our philosophy is that a jacket needs to be durable and tough, as well as wind and water resistant, so we prefer jackets of wool and cotton. Wool provides warmth, and can absorb 30% of it’s weight in moisture before it feels wet. Cotton canvas is tough, water repellent, and when treated with wax, waterproof. Yes, it means more maintenance, but it also means that your jacket can work or play as hard as you do - no matter the conditions, or environment.
