Mid Layers

Mid layers provide more insulation in a thermal layering system, and expand on the initial work done by base layers. Made of heavier weight wool, and wool blends, using a mid-layer along with a base layer significantly increases the warmth and insulation capabilities of clothing, while allowing for the removal of layers during periods of high activity, or if temperatures climb.

About Mid Layers

Mid layers in a thermal layering system can add exponentially to the heat retention and wicking capabilities of a base layer: adding extra insulation when needed, but providing a means to de-layer if activity if high (skiing, jogging, cutting/sawing wood, etc..) or if daytime temperatures climb. Combined with a shell layer (synthetic, wool, or canvas) mid layers help keep body heat in the garments, while helping to wick moisture away from the body to the outer layers. Made from either 100% wool, or wool blends, our mid-layer jackets from Woolpower or Ivanhoe of Sweden are made to perform and last for years or cool spring days, cold fall mornings, or deep freeze winter trips.
