There are plenty of places carrying a dizzying array of brightly coloured nylon tents, and these are fine for summer use, or when your sleeping bag is your primary source of heat. In order to extend the camping season year round however, we’re big fans of using wood stoves in conjunction with winter hot canvas tents.

About Tents

Our canvas tents are the perfect cold-weather tent, allowing you to extend the camping season year round when used in conjunction with a wood stove. Canvas tents provide an extremely comfortable experience when out in cool or cold weather.

Canvas is a rugged, highly durable material, that when woven tightly will swell when wet, and become waterproof. It is also breathable, and lets moisture and air transpire through it - meaning a much safer environment when using a stove in a tent. When treated for fire retardancy and mold and mildew resistance, cotton duck is the best choice for using in all weather from cool spring mornings to winter blizzards to cold rainy fall nights.

Types of Tents

Three Season Tents Three season tents are lightweight, portable tents made from nylon or polyester with bug mesh and rainflies for use when hiking, canoeing, kayaking, ATVing or car camping.

Prospector Tents Prospector tents make excellent shelters for hunting trips, as temporary structures on undeveloped properties, or as sleeping quarters at camps and cottages.

Esker Winter Hot Tents Esker Winter Hot Tents are canvas tents ingeniously designed to not require a pole kit, allowing them to pack up extremely small and compact, making them ideal cold weather tents. Choice of floorspace configurations (9’x9’, and 10’x10’). Hand crafted in Ontario, Canada.

Esker Adjustable Hot Tent Center PoleEsker's new hot tent center pole provides an adjustable (up to 2.5m (8.2 ft )) aluminum pole that can support up to 250 kg (!!) and features a specially designed tip that ensures no damage to tarps or tents it's used with. Perfect for use with all of Esker's Arctic Fox and Classic tent lines, as well as any pyramid style tent, or as additional support under tarps.

Esker Arctic Fox Winter Hot Tent - 9x9The Esker Arctic Fox 9'x9' Winter Camping Tent hot tent is a lightweight, highly portable shelter that is made from 10oz "army duck" cotton canvas and has a standard air vent, and two way zippered opening. Requiring no pole kit, and weighing a mere 6kg (13lbs), the Esker Arctic Fox 9x9 is the perfect tent for 1 - 2 people seeking their own "Snow Walking" adventure.

Esker Classic 2 Winter Camping Hot Tent - 10x10The Esker Classic 2 - 10x10 Winter Camping Tent canvas hot tent features the same cotton construction, and dimensions as the original Esker Classic 10x10, but moves the stove pipe ring to the right side wall, so that when paired with a stove with an elbow, reduces the chances of getting creosote or embers on the tent fabric.

Esker Classic Winter Camping Hot Tent - 10x10The Esker Classic 10x10 Winter Camping Tent canvas hot tent features the same cotton construction, standard air vent, and two-way zippered opening as the Arctic Fox model, but sports a 4 sided (square) design, as opposed to the 5 sided Arctic Fox - making it more intuitive to set up, roomier, and allows for side-by-side sleeping: perfect for families.

Esker Classic Winter Camping Hot Tent - 12x12The Esker 12 x 12 Classic winter hot tent is ideal for sleeping larger groups of 4-6 with a stove, for families, or for use as a warming station for schools, scouts, or outfitters.

Esker Classic 2 Winter Camping Hot Tent - 12x12The largest of Esker's Classic series tents, the 12x12 Classic 2 is dimensionally the same as the original Classic 12x12, but moves the stove pipe ring to the side of the tent, which supports the use of stoves with elbows, and thereby reduces the chances of creosote and embers landing on the tent.

Esker Central Tent Pole BaseThis handy tent pole base is made from lightweight aluminum, and helps to spread the weight of a centrally supported tent pole (like in Esker hot tents, or other pyramid style tents) so that the pole end does not penetrate down into compacted snow. Bent edges anchor the base, and keep it in place.

Esker Canvas Tent CleanerEsker's Canvas Tent Cleaner is a non-toxic, non-chlorinated, biodegradable product that cleans mildew, bird droppings, leaf stains, creosote and other stains from cotton canvas tents and tarps. Gentle to skin, it does not degrade tent fabrics, and is colour safe.

Esker Arctic Fox Winter Hot Tent - 10x10The Esker Arctic Fox 10x10 Winter Camping Tent canvas hot tent features all cotton construction, a standard air vent, and a two-way zippered opening that allows the door to be opened from the top or bottom. The Esker Arctic Fox 10x10 requires no pole kit to erect, and packs down to a 9Kg (19lb) package that is easily transported. Esker Multi Winter Hot Tent - 10X10The Esker Multi is a Canadian made winter hot tent that is designed to be highly versatile, accommodating various methods for set up and use in a wide variety of environments and conditions. A new exterior stainless steel peak ring allows the tent to be hung from a ridge line (as opposed to using a pole), and a new internal harness system and grommets on the tent side wall tie-outs allow for the use of poles (sold separately), sticks and branches to be used as supports.
