Filson began in 1897 servicing the needs of prospectors heading north for the Klondike gold rush. Designed for the rugged conditions that these men would encounter, C.C. Filson milled and manufactured Mackinaw wool blankets and clothing, as well as knit goods, boots, shoes, moccasins and sleeping bags. He later expanded into clothing for timber workers, loggers, mariners and miners, always with a view to producing top quality, rugged, durable clothing. Over the decades Filson has maintained this commitment to quality, and stayed true to C.C.’s philosophy: makes sure it’s the absolute best. Materials such as Mackinaw wool, and tin and shelter cloth (cotton canvases) ensure durability and performance in the field even years of heavy use. While other companies have moved production “offshore” Filson maintains production facilities in USA, and makes all of it’s mackinaw wool, tin cloth and shelter garments in America.
